Company History
Prudent Energy's third-generation Vanadium Redox Battery (VRB®) system is the product of over 20 years of research and development.
The result of our company's efforts is a clean energy storage system delivering customers significant advantages in terms of operating cost, system life, maintenance, and safety. Initially sold as an efficient, low-emission alternative to diesel engines or lead-acid batteries in remote areas, the VRB® has become the technology of choice to discharge and store electricity in quantities sufficient to improve the operation of an entire power generation, transmission and distribution network.
In January 2009, VRB Power, Inc., then a publicly traded company in Vancouver, Canada, sold all patents, trademarks, know-how, equipment, and bulk of material it owned or controlled to Prudent Energy. As a result, Prudent has acquired world-wide rights to Vanadium-only flow batteries, with over 40 far-reaching patents encompassing core cell stack designs, electrolyte composition, systems designs, as well as several application patents involving the use of VRB® and VRB Energy Storage Systems (VRB-ESS®) with wind farms, off-grid applications, and smart grids.
